RF ABLATION

Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally-invasive treatment used to treat certain types of primary and metastasized liver, kidney, and lung cancer. Using image guidance such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT or CAT scan), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), your MIT radiologist will guide a needle electrode directly into the cancerous tumor and apply the appropriate level of heat to effectively destroy it.

Radiofrequency ablation has proven to be highly effective in treating tumors smaller than one and a half inches in diameter and is often used in concert with chemotherapy or radiation therapy, especially in patients who are ineligible for surgery.

Your MIT staff will provide the appropriate topical and, when warranted, sedating medication to ensure your utmost physical and emotional comfort throughout the procedure.
